6/5 Unhealthy Ways Emotions can Block Total Wholeness

October 20, 2012tools

We saw in our last posts that emotions are common to all humans. We emphasised that our emotions come from our thinking patterns – and can be changed if we change our thinking.  That’s why ‘re-newing the mind’ is so important. Without emotions, we would just be zombies or robots.  It is our emotions that make us truly human.

A machine (like a computer) can compare and contrast much quicker (and usually more accurately) than we can.  That doesn’t make it more human, but less.  In the science fiction series “Star Trek” human beings are always trying to get Spock to become emotional.  You see, he is not human, but Vulcan.

6/4 Where do we get our Emotions for Total Wholeness?

October 12, 2012

If we see the overall picture, Emotions are observable behaviours because of the chemical changes in our body. That is why chemicals (drugs) can be used to ‘alter our moods’. Using a definition from Selwyn Hughes in his Every Day with Jesus, May, 1998, emotions can be defined as:

“The state of mind …… that produces a feeling …..  which then shows itself in a physical change within the body.”

These chemical changes are influenced largely by how we ‘see’ the world around us.  That is, how we interpret what we see, smell, touch, hear and taste.  The brain is the organ that interprets reality and ties the five senses to thought and emotion.

6/2 Intro to Emotions and Total Wholeness

October 4, 2012
report

Welcome back to the Boardroom of your Personality!

Your personality – or what we have called ‘The Boardroom’ – is constantly feeling emotions, thinking about things, sorting out different views and making decisions.  Most of this activity is ‘under cover’; we need to look for the patterns that are happening to understand our own Boardroom.

Remember the other influences in the Boardroom?  For most people, the Conscience has a large say in any decisions.  This voice uses the ‘should, ought, must’ and etc.  It often condemned us into action.
