8/3 What the Body was Designed to be for Total Wholeness

The Body is Creator God’s idea of an interface between the spirit and the physical universe.  He wants it (like all inner system – BR members) to be healthy and whole.  The Body is the foundation on which our mental and spiritual health depends.

We all begin with a body, created by God.  It has certain features that are unchangeable, such as our height, bone structure.  We can to learn to honour His choices for us. We all begin with a body, created by God, brought into the Earth by a woman.  It has certain features that are unchangeable, such as whether we are male or female.  We need to learn to honour His choices for us.

The body is our dwelling place here on Earth until we die.  The body is subject to death and will return to the dust it was made of.  The spirit returns back to God who gave it.  The body shows the effects of sin and rebellion, by the process of aging and dying.  Under the loving Lordship of Jesus, we develop a new attitude about the body.

What the Bible says about the Human body:

It was originally fashioned by God – Genesis 2:7, 22.  We were formed in the womb with incredible and intricate designs – Psalms 139:13, 15-16, Isaiah 44:2.

The Body refers to one’s outward appearance – Genesis 25:25.  We are clothed with our Body – Matthew 6:25. The body can be healthy – Psalms 3:8. The Body can become ill – Psalms 38:3, 7 and can suffer – 1 Peter 4:1.

We can love our Body or hate it – Ephesians 5:29. It experiences life and peace – Proverbs 14:30 and our Body can experiences freedom – Mark. 5:29.

The body is our dwelling place until we die.  Effects of sin on the human body/person: It becomes an instrument of sin – Romans 6:12-13, 19, Romans 7:5.  It becomes subject to death because of the choices Adam and Eve made. – Genesis 3:19,  Psalms. 90:3-5, Romans 8:10.

The body shows the effects of sin and rebellion from the fall.  The body is subject to death – unless Jesus returns first – and will return to the dust it was made of.  However, the body must be controlled – 1 Thessalonians 4:4, James 3:2.

Under the loving Lordship of Jesus, we can develop a new attitude about the body.  God’s Holy Spirit dwells with us in this vessel of clay.  We must learn to appreciate how valuable our body is.  We can discipline it – 1 Corinthians 9:27. It can be washed by God – Hebrews 10:22.  It can yearn for God – Psalms 63:1.

It can please God – Romans 12:1.  It can reveal the living Jesus – 2 Corinthians 4:10, Philemon 1:20. It receives new life – Romans 8:11.  It becomes a member of Christ – 1 Corinthians 6:15.  The Body is also a temple of God’s Spirit as Jesus Followers – 1 Corinthians 6:19.  It can seek to do God’s will – Romans 6:13, 19 and our Body can learn to honour God – Romans 12:1,

The Future of the Christian’s Body:

Our body will be resurrected – John. 5:28-29,   John. 11:23-24, 1 Corinthians 15:42-44.  One day, our body will be redeemed – Romans 8:23.  We will receive a new body, like Jesus –1 Corinthians 15:52-54, Philippians 3:21.

Our Creator had loving plans as Adam was made in the Garden of Eden.  Life was breathed into Adam and he was given choice – just like we are today.  I am always touched by our next post, from Max Lucado’s ‘The Choice’.  Join me for this look at the choices we as humans make.
